Flood Inundation Mapping of Jigjiga-Town and Its Surrounding Environment: Using GIS & HEC-RAS Model

چکیده
Flood is one of the natural hazards that have negative impacts on peoples and property. It occurs in lowland areas without any sign when excessive rains fall adjacent highland areas. Since flood unavoidable phenomena, adopting protective mechanisms are crucial. This study was conducted Jigjiga town, Eastern Ethiopia with main objective delineating risk For purpose mapping preparation, hydrology hydraulics models been used. Besides, land use /cover change detection analysis has carried out between year 2003 2017. Soil Conservation System (SCS) Curve Number method used as model. Satellite field data collected, filtered finally a geo-database developed GIS environment. Flow river geometry data, which obtained from model prepared using HEC-GeoRAS inputs for HEC-RAS Before running steady flow analysis, correction From study, it found that, expansion built up area agricultural at cost open area. inundation extent maps show increasing aerial coverage return period increases but variation consecutive periods small. The by applying structural control mechanism shows measure reduces considerably also exhibits some part town still undated all periods. observed may lead to increase flooding. among LULC classes under high zone different periods, consist considerable proportion. map can be planning measures future flood.

متن کاملFlood hazard zoning using geographic information system (GIS) and HEC-RAS model (Case study: Rasht City)
Rivers are important water resources for human life, but sometimes cause irreparable damages. The flood plains are fertile terrains which are endangered by flood. Flood hazard mapping is one of the basic methods in flood fighting. In order to decline flood damages, the simulation of the hydraulic behavior of the rivers during flood occurrence is very important. In this study, areas that are flo...

Abstract: This paper presents the methodology and procedure for flood risk assessment using GIS and flood inundation model (FIM) based on the “micro-zonation concept” in which an entire floodplain considered is divided into numerous unit areas (meshes or grids). In this study, Shinkawa-river floodplain around Nagoya City of Aichi Prefecture in Japan an urbanized lowland area, which was greatly ...

Abstract A significant deficiency of most computer models used for stream floodplain analysis is that the locations of structures impacted by floodwaters, such as bridges, roads, and buildings, cannot be effectively compared to the floodplain location. This research presents a straightforward approach for processing output of the HEC-RAS hydraulic model, to enable two- and three dimensional f...
